The Newseum has selected an interactive exhibition on social media as its first permanent addition at the museum since it opened in 2008. It’s only natural since Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, as well as Google and YouTube have become part of the daily news feed.
Do you think social media is such a legitimate part of news gathering and sharing these days that it deserves a spot in a journalism museum? How do you feel about the newseum embracing social media as such?
I think it's hard to deny that social media is not a part of journalism today. So many stories have been broken via Twitter and almost every major media outlet has embraced the social media wave. I think it's cool that museums are documenting it. Journalism is changing so much right now and it is something that future journalists will surely want to learn about.
ReplyDeleteI think that social media absolutely deserves a spot in a journalism museum. It has changed news as we know it, and has successfully documented major events. We would not know nearly as much as we do about the Arab Spring had it not been for Twitter. I think it's great that the newseum is embracing where journalism is going.
